1. There are different types of pharmacists.
Pursuing a career as a pharmacist means that you can be a community pharmacist, a consulting pharmacist, a research pharmacist or a variety of others depending on what most interests you. Sixty percent of all pharmacists are community pharmacists, though there are numerous other roles to consider.
2. Consider the education requirements.
Each job path has different school and education requirements. How much time are you willing to spend for school in order to build a career as a pharmcist? Some types of pharmacists, especially those who specialize, need to go through more schooling than pharmacists that work in a general field instead.
3. Create a plan.
Once you know what type of pharmacist you would like to be, and you know what the education requirements are needed for your goals, you can put together a good working plan. You should commit your career goals and education plan to paper as soon as you can. If you break the entire plan down into steps, things will be a lot simpler for you moving forward. It is vitally essential to know where you are going throughout the process so that you can achieve your goals more easily.
4. Do not be afraid to adjust your plans as time goes on.
If you decide in the future that you want to be a different type of pharmacist, simply make the required changes in your education plan and move forward. It is important that you can roll with the punches and adjust your plans as needed in order to achieve the goals that you set for yourself.
