Budget deal averts teacher layoffs in New York City
From The New York Times: The layoffs of 4,100 teachers in New York City‘s public schools have been averted. The agreement calls for concessions from the United Federation of Teachers and more money from the City Council. The union has agreed to suspend teacher sabbaticals for a year and permit teachers without a permanent assignment to be used more regularly as classroom substitutes.
