Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools appoints new superintendent
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools appointed a Connecticut administrator as its new superintendent on Thursday.
Thomas A. Forcella has been the superintendent of public schools in Guilford, Conn., since 2005.
“I am excited about the opportunity to continue the tradition of excellence that has become the norm for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and to provide the leadership required to advance student achievement to even higher levels,” Forcella said.
Current Superintendent Neil Pedersen announced last year that he will retire at the end of his contract on June 30.
Pedersen came to CHCCS in 1987. He served five years as an assistant superintendent and 18 years as superintendent.
He is the longest-serving superintendent in the district’s 101-year history, and his 18-year tenure makes him the second longest superintendent currently serving in one district in North Carolina.
