N.C. troopers to focus on school zone violations
North Carolina’s troopers are increasing enforcement of traffic violations around school zones.
The Highway Patrol is beginning a weeklong operation Monday that focuses on drivers who pass stopped school buses. The state says more than 2,300 drivers violate the state’s bus-stop-arm law each day.
Troopers will be working in school zones and following buses during the week. Officials say motorists who try to pass a stopped bus will be ticketed.
Passing a stopped school bus is a misdemeanor. A person convicted of the violation can get five points on their driver’s license and fines up to $200.
