Regents Approve ISU Purchase Of Animal Hospital
The Iowa Board of Regents has approved Iowa State University’s plan to buy a Des Moines animal hospital for $4.6 million.In a special phone meeting Thursday, regents unanimously supported ISU’s plan to purchase and operate Iowa Veterinary Specialties, a 24-hour animal emergency facility that also has a surgical practice.Dean of Veterinary Medicine John Thomson says the clinic will allow the school to serve the largest metropolitan area in Iowa, giving students a venue to practice and professors a place to put research to work.The board called the meeting because sellers of the hospital want to close by Feb. 1.
