Students get Renaissance experience at summer camp
The culmination of a four-week Renaissance experience came to an end for about 60 middle students today at Chapin High School.
The Cultural Arts Academy, through EPISD, has hosted a fine arts summer program for gifted and talented middle school students since 1989.
For four weeks the students learn three Shakespeare plays, how to fence, play recorders, make medallions and goblets. Everything, of course, has an emphasis on the Renaissance time period.
Parents and friends were able to come the last day and see everything the students have learned.

“It goes deeper and more in-depth than they could go in a regular class,” she said. “She’s been really excited about it.”
Donna Mullens, program coordinator, said she enjoys doing the academy each year, adding the arts are a huge part of her soul. She said she enjoys seeing the young students coming each year to the program during summer break.
“These young people would rather be here than at home watching TV or playing video games,” she said.
