Tata says Wake assignment plans will preserve diversity
Wake County Superintendent Tony Tata hinted at lofty student assignment goals Thursday, saying he’s trying to preserve the magnet program, provide proximity and avoid creating low-performing schools.
During a meeting with editors and reporters at The News & Observer, Tata gave a few more details about two new student assignment plans that are scheduled to be released for public comment Monday.
Tata avoided going into specifics about how the plans would work. But he said they balanced the new student assignment policy that calls for assigning students on the basis of proximity with what he has heard from the community about keeping schools diverse.
