Golfers set to swing in 2010-11

Golfers set to swing in 2010-11 Following one of the best seasons in recent history, the Occidental College men’s golf team is ready to tee off in 2010. The Tigers return a solid core of golfers are excited to get underway with fall tournaments as the team prepares for a split-season schedule. Last year was the first time that the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sponsored fall golf and 2010-11 will mark an even more competitive and structured schedule.

The five week season scheduled for the fall semester will see the Tigers play in three tournaments. The Black and Orange will hit the links for the first time on Monday, Sept. 27 when they travel the Sierra Lakes Country Club to play in the University of La Verne Invitational.

Occidental head coach Erik Johnson talked about the upcoming season.

“We are looking forward to building off last year’s accomplishments and feel we are ready to compete against the always competitive SCIAC golfers.”

Leading the pack will be junior returning All-SCIAC performers Andrew Larkin and Sam Weiss. In addition to veteran players Miles Cole, Ryan Ferguson and Jamey Stambler, the Tigers are encouraged about the potential of freshmen Ethan Eisenbarth and Jonathan Menashe.

The final two tournaments of the 2010 portion of their schedule will be held at Empire Lakes Golf Club. The first on  Thursday, Oct. 14 versus Cal Baptist University with the final scheduled event of the fall a Co-ed Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Overall the Tigers are ready to make the 2010-11 year even better than last.
