Men’s swimming and diving earn first SCIAC win of 2010 A day after falling short of a victory in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener, the men’s swimming and diving teams came out on top against the Whittier College Poets, 148-78.
Occidental won every individual swimming event today at Taylor Pool and capped off the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay.
The freshmen made a name for themselves today, tallying five of the nine first place swims.
Jack Butcher and Benjamin Sullivan turned in two victories apiece while fellow rookie Tim Healy earned a win in the 200 freestyle.
Butcher led the trio of Tigers who swept the 1650 free event, clocking in at 17:39.22 ahead of first year swimmers Elya Shamsou and Jack Stabenfeldt who finished their respective mile races in 20:16.58 and 20:50.65. Ross sprinted in 22.70 with Ratkovich right behind at 22.79. Ross then went on to win the 100 free in a time of 50.15 followed by Ratkovich (50.99) who earned third place.
