Pair of Tigers earn All-Academic
Eric Kleinsasser and Charlie Sauter represented the Occidental College men’s cross country team on the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team announced today.
Scholar Athletes are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest individually at the most recent NCAA Championships. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The two Tigers’ harriers were among 142 Division III athletes to be recognized for his achievements on the course and in the classrooms. Kleinsasser became a three-time Runner of the Year, winning the 2010 edition of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, running the 8K in 25:53.23 for a 5:12.5 mile average. The junior Geology major with a minor in Mathematics who aspires to work in Climatology and Geologic Mapping, placed fifth at the 2010 West Regional Meet in Salem, Ore. when he ran a 25:41.52 to earn All West Region accolades. Kleinsasser went on to run at the NCAA National Championships. Kleinsasser has been top five in the West Region all three years he has competed at the collegiate level and with three trips to National Championships, where he finished 35th as a sophomore.
Sauter, an Economics major, was the final Second Team All-SCIAC recipient when he ran a 27:31.34 at the 2010 SCIAC Championships at Prado Park. The sophomore went on to earn All West Region recognition, placing 32nd in personal best time of 26:38.54.
Anders Hulleberg of Haverford College was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2010 cross country season on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Hulleberg was also the NCAA Division III cross country champion for the 2010 fall season.
