Three Tigers Track and Field athletes earn Academic All-American

Three Tigers Track and Field athletes earn Academic All-American Announced at the end of July by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), a trio of Occidental College athletes were named to the 2010 Division III All-Academic track & field team.
To qualify for this award the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and have met a NCAA Division III automatic or provisional qualifying standard during the 2009-10 academic year.
Among the 330 total recipients, from 99 different institutions nation wide, were three Tigers. Senior Karuna Batcha, junior Kelly Young and sophomore Claire Larson all earned the honor for the first time in 2010 and were three of 12 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes to earn this recognition.
While Batcha and Larson met provisional qualifying standards in the 100 meter hurdles and 800 meter run, respectively, Young went on to place third in the nation in the javelin while throwing the discus at Nationals as well.
